Contagion

A few months ago, Becks got a nasty virus. This virus caused my baby to have a fever for almost 5 days, caused him to throw up, have a runny nose, have no appetite, wake up every 2 hours, become very weak and made him want to be attached at my hip for those 5 days. It was the worst sickness he's had to date. We were looking at pictures of the weekend before he got sick and we spotted the exact moment of contagion. Ladies and Gentlemen, you are now a witness to Contagion 2012.

The day started out at a local LA park, hanging out with best bud Henry, the day after his BIG birthday party.

Becks: Oh Hi Henry! I had such a great time at your birthday party! Here, want a Cheerio?
Henry: Sure, feed it to me why don't you?
Henry: Mmmmmm, I love Cheerios! Just a little lick...
Becks: Pssssssyche! Your birthday is over buddy, this is my Cheerio!
Becks: I can't believe you wanted to eat my Cheerio! Check out my pincer grasp, isn't it awesome?
Henry: Umm, Auntie Mayra,I think there is something Becks should know before he eats...
Becks: Chomp, chomp. I love taking little bites of Cheerios!
Becks: Mmmmm, two more bites to go...
Becks: Savoring this last bite...wish I had some milk to go with it!

A look back in time... (approximately 1 year, 1 month, 1 week, 4 days ago)

He's Here!

It only took...

41 weeks and 4 days

1 induction:  My induction started at 5pm on Saturday, June 18th, after getting a call from Kaiser at noon to come in a day early from my scheduled appointment. We had time to watch a screening of Midnight in Paris and picked up sandwiches from A.G. Ferrari before heading over to the hospital. (Oh and a run in with Bruce Bochy after breakfast at TownsEnd Cafe)

37 hours of labor

2 epidurals (yes, TWO!)

1 foley bulb

1 urinary catheter

1 oxygen mask

1 water breaking on its own (at 3:33am right as the anesthesiologist finished administering the test dose on my first epidural)

various levels of Pitocin

2 times that I was almost rushed to the operating room for a C-Section (because baby's heart rate dipped to the low 60's)

1 false dilatation reading (from 5 inches to 3)

1 mini break down resulting from above "false" reading

3 hits of Fentanyl

Countless pitchers of water

Zero ice chips

1 hour 40 minutes of pushing

Last meal before being a mother: sesame noodles with chicken and veggies and tea

Result: 1 healthy baby weighing in at 8lbs, 12 oz and 21 inches in length and scoring an APGAR score of 9!

I've practically forgotten what it took to get this baby out;)

And now my baby is one...

Let's go Downtown!

Latest obsession--like the rest of the world's-- is Downton Abbey. Saw the SNL SpikeTV spoof and found it utterly exhilarating! Funny thing is, I always thought it was Downtown Abbey up until recently! Guess I wasn't the only one!

Amazing...

How one picture can instantly brighten up my day!

Destined to be like Celine?

Becks was born with a head full of hair.

And, although he has lost quite a bit of it over the past couple of months, he still has more hair than most babies. Some, might even call it mullet-like.

Because of this hair, he is often confused for a girl.

But I refuse to cut it. I now know how Celine felt with her first born's hair (yes, he's a boy!).

A commonality with the greatest singer in the whole wide world? I'll take it!

A Story: Becks and his car seat

From the beginning (of Becks' life), Becks did not take riding in his car seat too well. In fact, he hated it.

Mommy and daddy would put all his favorite toys in it, but he was still miserable in it.

He would either cry and fuss the entire car ride...

Or fall asleep (a grumpy sleep, mind you).

As he got older (and wiser), he would try to escape from it.

But Mommy caught him trying to escape one day, so she tightened the harness. Which made Becks more grumpy.

Eventually, Becks came to terms with his car seat (sort of) and learned to accept that from time to time he would need to be in it. But he still didn't need to be happy about it.

OR maybe...

He could try to eat his way out of it!

Ooops, caught again!

Can't. Stop. Watching.

Please help.

I can't stop watching American Horror Story. It is frighteningly addicting! I tell myself to watch it during the day, but always seem to watch it at night after 10pm (after Becks goes to bed of course-- I don't want him to have nightmares from my addiction). And right before I go to bed. Of course.

Ironically, I find that the characters that are alive are the scariest, especially Jessica Lange's character. Freaky crazy.

And I love Connie Britton, she sure is a good actress (goes back to my Friday Night Lights addiction).

Check out the trailer but beware!
