Becks-- a look back at 0.5 years, 1.5 years, 2 years

Becks at 6 months
Well, it has been 6 full months--yes, HALF A YEAR-- since my baby has been out of my belly. If I do say so myself, this littel guy is amazing! I think this baby is way ahead of the curve and I credit that all to my intake of Omega 3 supplements:) Or, maybe he is just a genius. That's what Geoffrey thinks.

At six months, Becks can do the following:

Sit up by himself for hours (ok, minutes, but in infant time, that's hours!):

Stand while holding on to something (and he sometimes even tests our reflexes by "letting go" and falling back into our arms)

He waves "hi"

He drinks out of a straw (I thought this was the most impressive trick yet)

He is starting to try to pull himself up to standing/sitting (oh oh, watch out here comes Becks!)

He babbles non-stop and makes himself laugh

Likes: Reading, dancing, singing, bath time, morning cuddles, kisses from mommy and daddy,  pear, oatmeal

Dislikes: riding in his car seat, naps

Favorite books: Dr. Seuss's Mr. Brown can Moo Can You? The Foot Book and There's a Wocket in my Pocket

Number of teeth: 0 (but the bottom two are trying to pop out)

Weight:

Height:

Becks at 1.5 years

Becks has been walking/running for 8 months now, so he is a constantly on the move. He is at a stage where he is testing his limits and ours. Which makes him very tantrum prone (yay, terrible ones!). But he's still amazing!

He says "I love you" like this: "I ooooooooou!"

He loves to "cheeeeeeeeeers" whenever he sees us drinking wine.

He always throws kisses when he says "bye".

He understands and completes many, many commands/instructions. My favorite one: please throw your diaper away in the trash.

He can say his name when you ask him: "Betts"

Likes: Batman, Buzz Lightyear, DVDs, Jack the Pumpkin King, being with mommy and daddy (but mostly mommy), dancing, playing ball (football, baseball, golf), riding on his horsie, drawing, playing with magnets

Dislikes: Sleeping, when we tell him "no", being strapped in (carseat, highchair)

Favorite food: Spaghetti, avocado, tortillas, beans and rice, cheerios, cuties, berries (all of them), spinach, OLIVES!

Favorite books: Pout Pout Fish, I ain't gonna paint no more, Bubbles, bubbles, Ride 'em Cowboy/Toy Story Book

Number of teeth: 16

Weight: 22 lbs

Height: 31.75 inches

Becks at 2 years
Becks' personality is starting to really come out. He is an energetic, funny, loving, stubborn little boy. He loves to run around, play, sing, play pretend, count, make monster noises.

Likes: Trains (especially Thomas the Train), Batman, naming animals and making animal sounds, playing with iPhone, dancing to Trouble, Trouble (Taylor Swift) and Locked Out of Heavan (Bruno Mars), singing, reading, counting, posing (superhero pose), doing spaghetti legs, playing with his cousins, band-aids

Dislikes: Sleeping in his bed, when he doesn't get his way (or when mommy and daddy say "no")

Favorite food: Waffles, pancakes, scrambled eggs, uvas (grapes), cake, keecoos (cookies), rice/beans, pb&j, applesauce, jicama, cucumbers, avocado, chocolate!

Favorite books: Owl Babies, How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight, On the Night You Were Born, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Goodnight Moon, Pout Pout Fish, Pout Pout Fish and the Deep Deep Blue (aka Mas Pout Pout)

Number of teeth: 18--the upper 2 year molars are coming

Weight: 23.8 lbs

Height: 34 inches

Contagion

A few months ago, Becks got a nasty virus. This virus caused my baby to have a fever for almost 5 days, caused him to throw up, have a runny nose, have no appetite, wake up every 2 hours, become very weak and made him want to be attached at my hip for those 5 days. It was the worst sickness he's had to date. We were looking at pictures of the weekend before he got sick and we spotted the exact moment of contagion. Ladies and Gentlemen, you are now a witness to Contagion 2012.

The day started out at a local LA park, hanging out with best bud Henry, the day after his BIG birthday party.

Becks: Oh Hi Henry! I had such a great time at your birthday party! Here, want a Cheerio?
Henry: Sure, feed it to me why don't you?
Henry: Mmmmmm, I love Cheerios! Just a little lick...
Becks: Pssssssyche! Your birthday is over buddy, this is my Cheerio!
Becks: I can't believe you wanted to eat my Cheerio! Check out my pincer grasp, isn't it awesome?
Henry: Umm, Auntie Mayra,I think there is something Becks should know before he eats...
Becks: Chomp, chomp. I love taking little bites of Cheerios!
Becks: Mmmmm, two more bites to go...
Becks: Savoring this last bite...wish I had some milk to go with it!

A look back in time... (approximately 1 year, 1 month, 1 week, 4 days ago)

He's Here!

It only took...

41 weeks and 4 days

1 induction:  My induction started at 5pm on Saturday, June 18th, after getting a call from Kaiser at noon to come in a day early from my scheduled appointment. We had time to watch a screening of Midnight in Paris and picked up sandwiches from A.G. Ferrari before heading over to the hospital. (Oh and a run in with Bruce Bochy after breakfast at TownsEnd Cafe)

37 hours of labor

2 epidurals (yes, TWO!)

1 foley bulb

1 urinary catheter

1 oxygen mask

1 water breaking on its own (at 3:33am right as the anesthesiologist finished administering the test dose on my first epidural)

various levels of Pitocin

2 times that I was almost rushed to the operating room for a C-Section (because baby's heart rate dipped to the low 60's)

1 false dilatation reading (from 5 inches to 3)

1 mini break down resulting from above "false" reading

3 hits of Fentanyl

Countless pitchers of water

Zero ice chips

1 hour 40 minutes of pushing

Last meal before being a mother: sesame noodles with chicken and veggies and tea

Result: 1 healthy baby weighing in at 8lbs, 12 oz and 21 inches in length and scoring an APGAR score of 9!

I've practically forgotten what it took to get this baby out;)

And now my baby is one...

Let's go Downtown!

Latest obsession--like the rest of the world's-- is Downton Abbey. Saw the SNL SpikeTV spoof and found it utterly exhilarating! Funny thing is, I always thought it was Downtown Abbey up until recently! Guess I wasn't the only one!

Amazing...

How one picture can instantly brighten up my day!

Destined to be like Celine?

Becks was born with a head full of hair.

And, although he has lost quite a bit of it over the past couple of months, he still has more hair than most babies. Some, might even call it mullet-like.

Because of this hair, he is often confused for a girl.

But I refuse to cut it. I now know how Celine felt with her first born's hair (yes, he's a boy!).

A commonality with the greatest singer in the whole wide world? I'll take it!

A Story: Becks and his car seat

From the beginning (of Becks' life), Becks did not take riding in his car seat too well. In fact, he hated it.

Mommy and daddy would put all his favorite toys in it, but he was still miserable in it.

He would either cry and fuss the entire car ride...

Or fall asleep (a grumpy sleep, mind you).

As he got older (and wiser), he would try to escape from it.

But Mommy caught him trying to escape one day, so she tightened the harness. Which made Becks more grumpy.

Eventually, Becks came to terms with his car seat (sort of) and learned to accept that from time to time he would need to be in it. But he still didn't need to be happy about it.

OR maybe...

He could try to eat his way out of it!

Ooops, caught again!
